UVB Phototherapy

Did you know that light can be used as a safe and effective treatment for conditions that cause itchy and irritated skin?

Safe and Effective

Phototherapy is often considered a first-line treatment for many autoimmune skin diseases.  It is effective in treating skin conditions including psoriasis, vitiligo, and eczema.  Since treatment is with light, it is very safe for children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.

Vitiligo

Effective in the treatment of vitiligo.

Psoriasis

Effective in the treatment of psoriasis.

Use Light To Treat

At our office, we use Narrowband UVB light during treatments.  Narrowband UVB is the most effective light to treat skin disease.  Plus, it is much safer than regular UVB light.  When skin is exposed to this special kind of light, it creates changes within the skin’s cells.  Following treatment, the cells in most patients begin to behave normally, which reduces or eliminates the symptoms of the skin disease.

Treatment is typically given 3 times a week and the light is gradually increased with each treatment.  Each treatment lasts between a few seconds up to 10 minutes.  So, treatments can easily fit into any part of your day:  on the way to work, during lunch break, after school, etc.
