Patch Testing
Patch testing is done to identify which allergens you could be sensitive to. Patching testing consists of three separate appointments- the first to place the patches on your back, second to remove the patches, and third to get the final read and discuss the results. The first appointment usually occurs on a Wednesday, the second appointment on a Friday, and the third appointment on a Tuesday.
- The first appointment is when the provider will place up to 80 patches on your back. The patches will then stay on your back for 48 hours.
- At the second appointment, the patches will be removed, the first reading is done, and all findings will be documented.
- The third and final appointment will consist of the final reading. The provider will discuss the positive responses with you and any concerns they may have.
- You will then be provided with a handout and/or an email listing the names of the chemicals or ingredients you are sensitive to.
We provide education on the free ACDS CAMP (American Contact Dermatitis Society Contact Allergen Management Program) app that can be downloaded on a mobile device that helps you review products that do not contain the allergens you are sensitive to. Using this app will help you purchase products that you are less likely to have an allergic reaction to and rashes. This app is updated on a regular basis by the American Contact Dermatitis Society.
