BIOPSY WOUND CARE

Our goal is for you to have the best possible outcome following your biopsy.

The American Academy of Dermatology created a brief video with simple tips you can follow at home to care for your biopsy site and support healing.

STEP 1

Wash your hands before touching your wound. Gently clean the biopsy site with mild soap and water, then pat dry with a clean cloth.

STEP 2

Apply petroleum jelly to keep the wound moist and promote healing.

STEP 3

Cover the area with a bandage or sterile gauze secured with paper tape.

STEP 4

Avoid using topical antibiotics unless your dermatologist specifically recommends them.

STEP 5

If bleeding occurs, apply firm pressure with sterile gauze for 20 minutes.

STEP 6

After the area has healed, protect it from sun exposure to help reduce scarring.
